SUNSHINE BOYS

An authentic barbershop quartet

The Sunshine Boys quartet was formed in April 1998, but the individual members have been involved in barbershop quartet music for a total of more than 90 years.  Jim McGraw (second from left), a  Methodist minister,  sings lead and is a two-time Dixie District quartet champion. Bob Blackwood (right), the tenor, is a retired electrical engineer with 35 years of quartet experience. Fred Dryden (second from right), the bass, is an accountant for an insurance company and began his barbershopping career 26 years ago in Montana. Glenn Stockton (left), the baritone, is a retired civilian employee of the Army who, in the last 15 years has sung with 6 registered quartets in Virginia and Florida.  Unfortunately, the quartet has recently been forced to retire from entertaining audiences due to medical problems.

The quartet has performed regularly around the Central Florida area.  They entertained an international crowd of over 5,000 people at the Orange County Convention Center and, in October 2000, performed at the Mark II Dinner Theater  as the lead-in to An Evening With Mark Twain, starring Michael Edwards.  On May 4, 2001, they competed for and won the title of Senior Quartet Champions of SPEBSQSA's Sunshine District (encompassing the entire state of Florida).

I am maintaining this page, even in retirement, because I can't bring myself to give up the idea of singing four-part harmony with 3 other guys, whether or not anyone else is listening.
