2 CONT      According to the Warren County, Georgia, 1793-1900 Genealogy II, 
2 CONC printed 1993, page 360 Guardians Returns, Robert Palmer requested 
2 CONC guardianship for Absolom T. Dockins, minor ward, 23 Dec 1823.  The parent 
2 CONC listed Micajah Dockins.  The Dockins listing is a common mistake in the 
2 CONC early 1800.  I have found Micajah Dawkins listed in tax records, jury 
2 CONC list and court records as Dorkins, Dockins, Denkins, and Dawkins.  On 
2 CONC page 331 of the same book, 23 Dec 1823, Palmer, Robert applies for the 
2 CONC removal of Iris guardianship of Dockins, Absolom T. from the county of 
2 CONC Burke to this county (Warren). Also on the same page, 17 Jul 1824: 
2 CONC Dawkins, Absolam ward of Palmer, Robert.  On page 366: Docket #79: 22 Dec 
2 CONC 1823, Palmer, Robert guardian of Dockins, Absalom T., A minor orphan 
2 CONC child of Dockins, Micajah, late of Jefferson County (deceased).

2 CONT      I have researched a lot on this Micajah Dockins.  There is no 
2 CONC Dockins listed in any records for Jefferson County, Ga.  The only Micajah 
2 CONC I find is a Dawkins.  He is listed in the Book, Family Heads 1805 
2 CONC Georgia, page 50.  Micajah Dawkins, Jefferson Cty.  There are other 
2 CONC Dawkins listed that I later found to be his brothers and brother-in-law.  
2 CONC The others list the wife, but no wife is listed for Micajah.  I know the 
2 CONC Lygia said Absalom's mother was Winnifred Tarver.  That was the problem.  
2 CONC I could not yet prove that Winnifred was indeed married to Micajah.  To 
2 CONC this day I have found no marriage record.  It is noted however that 
2 CONC Micajah was the head of household on 1805, one year before Absalom's 
2 CONC birth. I did however find a tie to Winnefred's father, Absolom Tarver.  
2 CONC Tax records for Hancock County 1812, A List of taxable Property for 
2 CONC Hancock County. 1812, Capt Jones's dist., page 63; Absolom Tarver is 
2 CONC listed as Administrator of Micajah Dorkins Property.  This was the tie I 
2 CONC was looking for.

2 CONT      Before you go looking, I did find a Micajah Dawkins that fought in 
2 CONC the War of 1812 on Anson Co., NC and later settled in NC.  This Micajah 
2 CONC Dawkins married a Salley Sparks is 1801 and his Father was a William 
2 CONC Dawkins from SC.  That William Dawkins was born in Maryland.  The NC 
2 CONC relation is a no go.

2 CONT      The Micajah Dawkins of Jefferson Co., Ga was listed as living in 
2 CONC Jefferson Co in 1805.  In 1823 he was listed a deceased late of Jefferson 
2 CONC Co.  This Micajah's father is also a William Dawkins, born 1726 in 
2 CONC Northumberland Co. VA. to John and Frances Dawkins.  He died Dec 1800 in 
2 CONC Jefferson Co. Ga.  Below is a copy of the Will of William Dawkins out of 
2 CONC Some Georgia County Records Vol 1, page 125.

2 CONC under Colonel Walter during the Revolution War.  He was taken prisoner on

2 CONT As you can see there are a lot of William's in the Dawkins line.  I got 
2 CONC most of this information off the Internet.  I have not had the time since 
2 CONC the first of Dec to go back to library and try to confirm all this.  I do 
2 CONC know the William Dawkins was the father of Micajah.  I know that Micajah 
2 CONC was the father of Absalom.  This I was able to get actual evidence.  The 
2 CONC rest after Absalom is what Lygia came up with. Maybe this answers some of 
2 CONC the questions on the parents of Absalom.  Who knows, maybe Micajah's 
2 CONC middle name was Robert like Lygia reported, all thou no middle name is 
2 CONC listed anywhere I can find.  A Lot of the information I got from the 
2 CONC library was from just setting down in the aisle and looking through all 
2 CONC the books on Georgia.  I would like to know where William and Micajah 
2 CONC were buried.  We know were their land was from the Will and Tax Records.

1 NOTE BIOGRAPHY: .."While Grandpa Hawkins was in the War of 1812, the soldiers 
2 CONC were all camped on a creek and were drinking whiskey, they wanted to have 
2 CONC a little fun so they set a canebrake on fire. Every one thought it was 
2 CONC the enemy coming and it frightened people nearly to death. There was only 
2 CONC one man in the community, old man Jones. All the women in the country 
2 CONC went to old man Jones. Grandma Hawkins had two children, she picked them 
2 CONC up and ran a mile to Mr. Jones'" According to War of 1812 Pension 
2 CONC Application filed by Mary H. Hawkins, his third wife, whose maiden name 
2 CONC was ADAMS, Stephen enlisted in Twiggs Co, GA on May 1, 1812, and was at 
2 CONC Ft. George during the war. Mary, his third wife, had been previously 
2 CONC married to J. W. Manning and was widowed. She further stated that she 
2 CONC married Stephen at Ft. Deposit, Lowndes Co, on 15 Sept, 1869. Stephen was 
2 CONC described as being five feet, eight inches, 190 pounds, with fair 
2 CONC complexion, light hair and eyes. She listed his death date as Mar 18, 
2 CONC 1875 in Greenville, AL. Censuses in which the Stephen Hawkins family are

2 CONC Grandpa's father lived to be 104 years old. Grandpa lived to be 88. When 
2 CONC he died he left 100 grandchildren and 52 great-grandchildren. Grandma 
2 CONC died during the war, he then married a Mrs. Bullock. At her death he 
2 CONC married Cousin Mary Manning. Cousin Mary had three children when they 
2 CONC were married and they had to feed grandpa he had the palsy so bad he 
2 CONC could not eat." Will of Stephen Hawkins, dated 18 Dec. 1869 (Lowndes Co., 
2 CONC Al.)-- filed 1876. " In the name of God, Amen, I, Stephen Hawkins of said 
2 CONC county, being of sound mind and memory at the time of publishing this my 
2 CONC last will and testament, hereby revoking all others, and considering the 
2 CONC uncertainty of this frail and transitory like, do therefore make and 
2 CONC publish this my last will and testament, That is to say: First, after all 
2 CONC my lawful debts and funeral expenses are paid and discharged, the residue 
2 CONC of my estate, real and personal, whereof I may did seized or possessed, I 
2 CONC give, bequeath and dispose of as follows: To Wit: That my said Executors 
2 CONC shall pay to each of my children John Hawkins, Thomas Hawkins estate, 
2 CONC Stephen M. Hawkins, Wm Hawkins, Henry Hawkins, Sarah Acreman, Eliza

2 CONC March 1875; aged 87 years. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist 
2 CONC Church 49 years." The will of Stephen Hawkins, dated 18 Dec. 1869 
2 CONC (Lowndes Co., Al.)was filed in 1876. Named in this will are his wife, 
2 CONC Mary and children: John Hawkins, Thomas Hawkins' estate, Stephen M. 
2 CONC Hawkins, Wm Hawkins, Henry Hawkins, Sarah Acreman, Eliza Williams, Martha 
2 CONC Holladay, Mary Ann Adams,and Fanny Holladay. Stephen Hawkins is believed 
2 CONC to be the Stephen Hawkins mentioned in the pension application records of 
2 CONC Thomas Hawkins of Conecuh and Lowndes Counties, AL. Thomas Hawkins was 
2 CONC born January 10, 1757 in Virginia (on the waters of Nottaway River) and 
2 CONC died October 05, 1849 in Lowndes County, Alabama. His son reported in his 
2 CONC pension application that his parents married about 1790 and she died in 
2 CONC 1803. He had no widow at the time of his pension application. Thomas 
2 CONC filed a pension application in Conecuh for Revolutionary Service while 
2 CONC living in Union District, SC. Children were listed. Date & place of birth 
2 CONC and death were given by John, his son. He had to continue filing after 
2 CONC his death, as his first application was rejected. Thomas said he was born 
2 CONC on the waters of Nottaway River, Virginia. He served in Cpt Brandon's 
2 CONC Reg't and fought in King's Mountain, & Cowpens and served for several 
2 CONC years. The children named in this application were: Fanny Hawkins; John 
2 CONC Hawkins; Calvin Hawkins(1830 & 1850 Henry Co., AL censuses); Stephen 
2 CONC Hawkins, born Abt. 1790 in Georgia or SC; died March 18, 1875 in 
2 CONC Manningham,Butler Co, Alabama; Wiley Hawkins (1840 Lowndes Co, AL 
2 CONC census); and William Hawkins, born January 01, 1800 in GA. and believed 
2 CONC to be the William who married Anna Shanks May 15, 1837 in Lowndes County, 
2 CONC Alabama (1840 Lowndes Co census).

2 CONT Before 1625 Plymouth sent one of their own, a Mr. Allerton, to
2 CONT London. While there he contacted a Mr. Sherley who was a goldsmith.
2 CONT Goldsmiths were the bankers of the day. They were who you saw when you
2 CONT needed a loan. Mr. Sherley in turn contacted a Mr. Andrews and a Mr.
2 CONT Beauchamp to invest in the Plymouth Plantation. Beauchamp paid £1127 and
2 CONT Andrews 1136. It is said "Mr. Sherley pretendeth that hee did alsoe add
2 CONT the some of £1190 for his share." As part of the agreement Sherley would
2 CONT receive shipments of skins and sell them. Then he would share profits
2 CONT with Beauchamp and Andrews. He would also pay the bills of the Plymouth
2 CONT colonists. These treaties were signed in 1625, 26 and 27.
2 CONT In 1636 there was a plague epidemic. Everyone who could was spending
2 CONT as much time as possible outside of the city. Sherley would only spend 1
2 CONT day a week there. It was during this bout of pestilence that Sherley
2 CONT received a shipment of beaver skins. What would in good times fetch up to
2 CONT £24 per pound was now less then £8. So Sherley decided to sit on the
2 CONT skins till the market went up. In the meantime he had to pay some bills
2 CONT run up by the colonists. He was owed money by a Mr. Hall who was out of
2 CONT town. When contacted he said he could not pay. So Sherley went to see
2 CONT Beauchamp and Andrews. He told them they should each pay a third. They
2 CONT both refused. This all comes from a letter from Sherley to Plymouth.
2 CONT In Plymouth the colonists were worried because in the 10 years of
2 CONT doing business with Sherley he had never once sent them an account of
2 CONT what he had been doing. They decided to halt all shipments till they got
2 CONT a full account. After doing so they received letters from Beauchamp and
2 CONT Andrews complaining about not receiving and furs and being £1100 in the
2 CONT hole. The colonists were shocked, they wrote back that they had been
2 CONT sending furs for a long time, and that they should see Sherley about
2 CONT their share.
2 CONT Sherley refused to pay up. Apparantly he was mad about their refusal
2 CONT to pay the bills earlier. Beauchamp sued Sherley in Chancerie but
2 CONT apparantly lost. Andrew and Beauchamp again wrote to the colonists and
2 CONT blamed them. The colonists took all their furs and sent them to Beauchamp
2 CONT and Andrews. They sent 1325 pounds to be divided equally among them.
2 CONT Beauchamp made £400, apparantly over the £1127 he invested. Andrews
2 CONT however was still dowd £40. This was in 1637.
2 CONT Apparantly Sherley had been receiving furs for a long time and had
2 CONT been pocketing the profit without giving any to Beauchamp or Andrews.
2 CONT Finally in 1641 the colonists became so fed up with the lying cheating
2 CONT Sherley and tried to terminate their contract with him. On Oct 15, 1641
2 CONT they wrote up a termination contract and had it sent to each of the three
2 CONT merchants, Sherley, Andrews and Beauchamp.
2 CONT Beauchamp refused to accept their terms believing he was owed more.
2 CONT He demanded either an extra £400 or £400, I'm not clear on this. In April
2 CONT 7, 1643 Sherley sent a letter to the colonists arguing against Beauchamps
2 CONT claims. Apparantly what happened was that when the coalition fell apart
2 CONT each man tried to get as much out of it as he could and Sherly and
2 CONT Andrews turned on Beauchamp.
2 CONT Finally in 1645 Beauchamp received £210 10s and I guess was
2 CONT satisfied. He was the last person to whom the colonists owed money. From
2 CONT this point on they were in the black. He apparantly had no further
2 CONT dealing with Plymouth.
