President’s Corner

Christmas is coming! And so is your club’s election of officers. Please mark your calendar now for November 3rd, 2007, Island View Casino, Gulfport, Ms. We look forward to having a great turnout for this meeting.

As of this writing we have dodged another season without any storms. Things are steadily getting better on the coast. While at our last meeting in Gulfport, Debbie and I visited the Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi and found it to be quite nice. There are more than a dozen casinos now open on the Gulf Coast.

It was nice to see that some of our members came a far distance to attend the August meeting. Bob & Debi Stultz drove in from Marietta, GA. Hope they had a great time!

I was recently contacted by Ron Clewell, President of the Mid American Casino Collector’s Club in regard to participating in a chip show (possibly in Tunica, MS) during 2008. This will be discussed at our November meeting. Should we decide to do this, it will require the help and volunteering of our membership. We need to know what YOU think and how you can help.

I trust that you have read the proposal for the new By-Laws & Articles of Incorporation for the club. These will have to be voted on soon. We need YOUR input.

Our thanks go once again to Bob Short, Casino Host, and the Island View Casino for providing a place for our club to meet.

Again, don’t forget to mark your calendars. Plan to attend the November 3rd meeting. There will be a lot going on besides the buying-selling-swapping of chips, 50/50 drawing, raffles, and door prizes etc.

CYA there! Bring a friend.

Bob Reed,

President

IN MEMORIAM

 JACK MAYERCIK

"Father, Teacher, Soldier"

John Edward Mayercik, 68, a native of Danbury, CT and a resident of Ocean Springs, MS, died Sunday, July 25th 2004 at his home.

His brother, Daniel S. Brooker, preceded him in death.

His sons survive him, Michael J. Mayercik, of Tampa, FL, Mark E. Mayercik of Orlando, FL, his brothers James P. Brooker, Edward L. Mayercik, Paul M. Mayercik, Walter G. Mayercik, James J. Mayercik and Ralph A. Mayercik, and his sisters Christine E. Berglund, Monica U. Black and Ruth A. Jose.

Mr. Mayercik was a decorated war veteran, having served two tours in Vietnam. He retired in 1978 after 20 years of Army service. He received his Bachelors of Science in Education from Columbus College in 1973, a Master of Education from Middle Tennessee State University in 1979, and his Specialist in Education in 1981.

Mr. Mayercik was active in the Lions Club and was president of the Deep South Chip Collectors Club, a club that he also helped to found.

After his military service, Mr. Mayercik taught at Oakland High School in Murfreesboro, TN, where he was the Senior Army Instructor for the JROTC program. He retired from teaching in 1996, after 16 years of service.  During his teaching career, he was instrumental in developing and establishing much of the curriculum and activities of the JROTC program. His patriotism is perfectly reflected in the great pride he took knowing that many of his students went on to have successful military careers.
