Note: William McCoy was a soldier in the Civil War. He served in the 11th Mississippi Cavalry from Sept. 16, 1862 until the end of the war. He served in Capt. Cole's company under the command of General J. Z. George. William McCoy kept Thorobred horses and helped to supply the Confederacy with steeds for their cavalry.

He was also a Mason, ultimately reaching the degree of Master Mason.
