    BASIC was the most popular programming language, but its original form is far less popular today. The original form of the language was unstructured, had an inconsistent syntax and was interpreted. Many dialects have surfaced over the years including some with emphesis on graphical interfaces and structured object oriented design. Most modern BASIC dialects can be compiled to native executable files.
