Manatee Sanctuary Fishing Information

(No Motor Zone) Note: Read security notice for open areas due to increased security at KSC and CCAFS

One area that I enjoy fishing is the manatee sanctuary area, north of the Bee-Line (State Route 528), on the Banana River. This area north of the power lines is a "No Motor Zone."  Canoes and row boats are the watercraft of choice here.  This area produces some big redfish and trout due to lighter fishing pressure. Areas to access the sanctuary are the Cape Canaveral Air Station (Rt 401) entrance road. You can put in anywhere from the draw bridges to the south gate of CCAS.  Within the last year or so "No Parking on Right Away" signs have been put up. This is enforce sometimes, so pull as far off the road as possible. For badged KSC and CCAS employees, the government has given you three access areas. One is at Hanger AF, and there are two areas on the southside of the NASA causeway between the Cape and Kennedy Space Center. These areas are marked with boat ramp signs and they have parking restrictions.  To fish the government sites you must stop at the CCAS South Gate guard house and get a fishing permit.  During rush hour (Mon-Fri) stop at the CCAS Pass and ID Badging Office and pick up your pass.  Passes can also be picked up at the KSC Pass and ID Station, and at KSC Gate 2B, which is located on the NASA Causeway just prior to entering the KSC Industrual Area.  Fishing is allowed from sunup to sunset.  Each badged person can bring up to 4 guests.
