1. Abraham Arkin, Herb's great-grandfather came from Lithuania in the early 1800's and settled in New York City. Lenny Hambro, a famous Jazz player with Gene Krupa and Glenn Miller Band, is part of this family. Surname Index, Person Index
2. The Batterson's came from England. We are particularly interested in John Batterson who married Dicey Wright, Carol's 2nd great grandmother. The following includes the Batterson's and Stewarts Surname Index, Person Index
3. The Johnson's are descended from Gustaf Jonsson (from Kristdala, Kalmar Län, Sweden to Kansas in 1882). His children's Surname was Gustafsson in Sweden. Upon entering America, the Surname was changed to Johnson since 'there were too many Gustafsson's'. His son was Frank Johnson, Carol's great-grandfather, who married Clara Batterson . We have visited Swedish relatives in Sweden and Leonardville, Kansas over the last few years.

4. Carol's great-grandfathers, John Cooney (from Ireland about 1844) and Christian Mendat (from Germany about 1890) emigrated to Cleveland, Ohio. Carol's grandfather Patrick Cooney and grandmother Mary Mendat married in Cleveland.
We have visited Mendat descendants who still reside in Cleveland. The names of the children of Adolph Mendat (picture), son of Christian, were changed to Mandat by his wife Johanna. We have also visited Cavan, Ireland where John Cooney originally lived. Person Index, Surname Index
5. Richard Wright, Sr.'s (Carol's fifth great-grandfather) parentage is not verified. Most likely he came from the British Isles. The first documented location is Rowan County, North Carolina in the mid-1750's. I have 63,349 descendants and relatives in the Richard Wright, Sr. database.
