OUR BACKYARD SANCTUARY
These pictures of our pond were taken May and June of 2002. The pond was built in September 2001. If you have ever had a pond you will know how they change from year to year and it totally looks different now. Sorry we don't have any current pictures. The Koi totally destroyed the water lily so we no longer have that water lily - good thing we took pictures. Since we put the ponds in we have all kinds of wildlife including a family of owls that think they have come to dine at the Inn On the Green. If you are wondering why the beach ball in the pond it is to discourage the owls; not sure it works, but it's better than nothing. The fish are much bigger now. We have Koi, Shubunkins, Goldfish and Plecostimus (algae eaters) in the pond. UPDATE: This summer (2004) we took all the Goldfish and Shubunkins out of the big pond after I saw the offspring of breeding Koi & Goldfish, also known as KoiComet hybrids.

We have eight 50 gallon tubs with water plants and this is one of the tubs. |
The lighting was great on this shot. BTW, we keep fish in these tubs to keep away the mosquito larvae. |

We put our first pond in around March 1999 and believe me I wish I had seen this web site before we started. There is tons of very informative information. For us that don't have money for exclusive ponds, this site will afford even us Senior Citizens a beautiful pond.
Take a look at Julia & Heather's Pond
