Eternal
Life
The
decision of where to spend eternity is the single most important decision
in this life. The Bible is the only source of truth about Eternal
Life. It says there are two options: Eternal Life or the Lake
of Fire. The default is the Lake of Fire. The free gift of
Eternal Life is available for all who want it. It requires no effort
on our part. A simple decision can make a big difference.
The
Cross
Jesus
Christ paid for the sins of the world on the cross. The way is now
open to have Eternal Life. "For God loved the world so much that
He gave His uniquely born Son that anyone who believes in Him shall never
perish but have Eternal Life" (Jn 3:16). With our sins paid for,
there is nothing to separate us from God. Jesus Christ settled the
debt of sin against us. When Jesus Christ was on the cross, God the
Father poured out the sins of the world on Christ and judged them.
Faith
Alone in Jesus Christ
Anyone
can have Eternal Life through a simple act of faith. "Believe on
the Lord Jesus and you will be saved" (Acts 16:31). Salvation is
received by believing in Jesus Christ, and nothing else. "For by
grace you have been saved, and this not from yourselves. It is the
gift from God. Not by works that no one should boast" (Eph. 2:8-9).
He who believes in the Son has Eternal Life, and he who does not believe
the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him" (Jn 3:36)
The
Problem of Spiritual Death
Mankind
is born into this life spiritually dead and separated from God. At
the moment of birth God judges us with Adam's original sin, which leaves
us spiritually dead. Spiritually dead people cannot communicate with
God because God is a Spirit. The Lord Jesus Christ, however, has
provided a solution to the problem of spiritual death. "For as in
Adam all die, even so by agency of Christ shall all be made alive" (1 Cor.
15:22) Jesus Christ died as a substitute for us.
Redeemer
from the Slave Market of Sin
The
Lord Jesus Christ redeemed us from the slave market of sin through His
substitutionary spiritual death on our behalf. "In Him we have redemption
through His blood: the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the
riches of His grace" (Eph. 1:7). Knowing that you were not redeemed
with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life
inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb
unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ" (1 Pet. 1:18-19)
Christ
Our Sanctification
Those
who believe in Jesus Christ are purified from their sins. They are
consecrated to God. "He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which
we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing
of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit" (Titus 3:5). Those
who are purified are called saints, and they can never lose that status.
"For by one offering He brought to completion for all time those who are
being sanctified" (Heb. 10:14).
Spiritual
Regeneration:
At
the moment of faith in Christ, the Holy Spirit enters the believer into
union with Christ. "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made
to drink of one Spirit" (1 Cor. 12:13). Those in union with Christ
share Christ's Righteousness, Eternal Life, and inheritance. There
is no way for the believer to ever lose his salvation. God cannot
condemn Jesus Christ, and the believer is in union with Christ.
Fellowship
with God:
Those
who are spiritually dead cannot have fellowship with God because He is
a Spirit. "But the soulish person does not accept the things of the
Spirit of God; for to him they are foolishness. In fact, he is not able
to acquire knowledge because spiritual things are investigated in a spiritual
manner" (1 Cor. 2:14). At salvation the believer receives a human
spirit. He is spiritually regenerated and able to communicate with
God.
Going
to Heaven:
Jesus
Christ said, "In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so,
I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “And if I go
and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you to Myself;
that where I am, there you may be also" (Jn 14:2-3). When we die,
we will "be absent from the body" and "at home face-to-face with the Lord"
(2 Cor. 5:8).
