The Edge of Blue

peedimit.jpg (61221 bytes).

With Mother's Day being celebrated this weekend, what could be more appropriate than a bouquet of flowers for this week's photo.   These blooms are Bluebonnets, the state flower of Texas, and were recently photographed near McKinney Falls.  The flowers were made nationally famous by Lady Bird Johnson, who spearheaded an effort to beautify the state's highways with these and other wildflowers.

Laura Bush apparently has a Spring container garden in the White House with a number of pots filled with bluebonnets.  And this weekend, the first family travels back to central Texas for the wedding of their youngest daughter, Jenna.   In a news story this week describing the impending event, the wedding designer described the bride's palette as 'Texas Wildflower'.   Immediately, I visualized a field of Bluebonnets, Indian Blankets, Coreopsis, Texas Poppy and others.  Anyone who has been to Texas in springtime is impressed with the multitude of colors painted throughout the countryside.  This week's Photo Card is an example of Indian Blanket.

I am sure every region of the country has its special springtime wildflowers.   As you celebrate your version of Mother's Day, we can be grateful for nature's proliferate display of color, beauty, fragrance and grace at this time of the year.   Happy Mother's Day!
