Incidentally, our
most recent, entirely-new page was for
20,000 Leagues
Under The Sea, which many of you will undoubtedly recall as
being a landmark Disney attraction that ran from 1971 to 1994.
If you're younger than that, you may only recall the empty lagoon that sat in
Fantasyland until August 2004, when it was finally dismantled.
If you're younger than that, you might be an infant.

Everybody
gets a day off, Susan. And what's with the pottymouth?
We started
looking through all the e-mails we had (aside from a handful that we
printed, all mail received prior to July 2003 was lost in a
fiery monorail crash) and realized there were really a ton of nice things said.
In fact, although we lost it with many others, we can only recall
one
message which was less than complimentary...a man didn't like our
assertion that WDW's Adventureland was shaded by racial
stereotyping. Now we won't be able to e-mail him when we finally
do a page on WDW & African-Americans, which will really be a fun
thing to behold.

"Very first
hostess?" By what, Daisy, like...24 hours? It looks like
you sat in the chair and read one e-mail which does not,
incidentally, make for a full day's work. Oh, and you doodled
all over the note pad by the phone. So I guess if anyone calls
looking for a shitty drawing of hearts and rainbows, we know who can
help them.

Hello
everyone and welcome to the brand-new Widen Your World Preview
Center. I'm proud to be the very fist hostess for this
part of the site, where information about upcoming pages or recent
updates will be posted and where some of our mail will be shared
with other WYW readers.
Our philosophy for some time was that, yes, blogging is self-indulgent and a preview center for a website
that had virtually no updates for over a year is - according to a
recent company memo - "pretty freaking
ludicrous," but then we got this e-mail yesterday from someone named Tracy and
the subject line was "greatest website ever." How
inordinately cool, how gleamingly generous! All of a sudden we
wanted to commemorate that comment...somehow. Thus this extra page on the site with a
mostly prosaic purpose.
But since it's part of the greatest website ever, it seemed okay.
Thank you Tracy!
As for the rest of you, we're glad to have you with us and remember:
we're just getting started. As our sidebar indicates, there
are many future pages in the works for WYW.
