Magic Campfire Legend

This is an old, old legend about a Girl Scout campfire that is known to all old Girl Scouts like me. The legend tells of a mystical magical campfire in which all the colors of the rainbow can be seen.... but the colors can be seen only by true Girl Scouts. There are a few rules governing this special campfire:

(Change these rules to match your group/event)

  1. It must be the fourth Saturday in January.
  2. There must be at least three people here camping for the first time.
  3. Camping the Girl Scout way must be a new experience for at least 2 people.
  4. There must be people present from at least two different Girl Scout troops.
  5. Present this evening, must be Girl Scouts from at least three different age levels (for example: Brownie, Cadette, and Adult)
  6. Each person present must have already done or have promised to do a good turn this weekend.
  7. Everyone must have gotten to know at least one person a little better this weekend.
  8. Everyone must have learned at least one new song.
  9. The feeling of Girl Scout sisterhood must be prevalent tonight.
  10. That undefined something, that unexplainable aura of Girl Scout magic must be in the air.

Join hands, close your eyes, and say the Girl Scout Promise with me. "On my honorŠ"*

Now, look real hard into the fire. We should be able to see:

*(While everyone's eyes are closed and they're reciting the promise, drop some 'fairy dust" crystals bought in a fireplace store into the fire. One brand is Rutland "Rainbow Crystals². The price ranges from $1.50‑$7.95 depending on the size container you purchase. Another product that gives a similar affect is called ³Fire Color Cones² by Winter Woods and is available at Target.)
