The last banding day of 2007 started quickly and just as fast dropped off to a whisper as clouds and breezes swept in.

We did share the day with a large group of children visiting with Dr. Deborah Green late in the morning.

Happy New Year to all!

Banding totals are located after the photos.

Ovenbird
It seemed that Grey Catbirds would be the first catch of the day but a recapture of an Ovenbird beat them to it just after dawn.
Grey Catbird
Seemed that the Catbird that wanted to get a band was hanging out farther down the net lane.
House Wren
House Wrens dropped in a couple of times during the morning.
Orange-crowned Warbler
As did a female Orange-crowned Warbler.
Eastern Towhee
Bird of the Day: Migrant Eastern Towhee.

Towhees were in full voice throughout the morning.
Eastern Towhee
Shortly after that male was captured, we netted a female resident Towhee.

Note the straw colored eyes indicating a local bird as opposed to the migrant's ruby red.
Fence Lizard
Richard and Deborah tell the kids about the fine art of bird banding to round out 2007.
